I am looking at getting a TPMS for the Tug and the Van. Is anyone using a TPMS at the moment?

The Discovery 4 does have TPMS but it does not display pressures it just tells you if a tyre is low.

I use the TPMS-201-D in the Patrol - have done for 4 years now. It work really well. The monitor is hard wired to the second battery - but you can turn it off at the back easilly.
I am looking at purchasing TPMS - 1504-4 for the Trooper (they have an aerial to cope with the extra "wireless" distance from the truck)- I have the TJM guy in Coffs getting a price now. Probably about $380 I think. This unit has a suction cap for the windscreen and plugs into the cigarette lighter socket - easy to take off when not in use.
They a bit of a pain to fit as they go inside the tyre - but at least they can't get damaged or pinched.

I have looked at that system. but for me a valve cap system is the best option because I have 2 sets of wheels for the Discovery.

I am looking at the 8 wheel TYREDOG system as a possible candidate. This system comes with a range extender.

check out this site http://www.tpms.ca/TALON.html
i bought this one from canada 2months ago replacing my top dog tpms for about $650 delivered with enough sensors to do the car and van
this particular unit impressed me because i didnt need a booster between the van and car
i can switch the van off when it is disconnected
the display has a wake up and sleep mode
has a rotating temp and pressure display mode and you can set the alarms for each individual tyre
the sensors come with a locking screw .i have been running this type of sensor for 5 years and have not had any problems and have been in some pretty rough country
i should add the system has alerted me twice with deflating pressures on the caravan and once with the car and was able to pull over in a safe place to change the tyre i believe saving the mag wheel as all were on gravel roads
it also alerted me to over temp on the van which was a result of undersize tyre fitted to one side
hope this helps
regards roger

Same item on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... TM:AU:1123

He also has additional sensors for $25usd each.

This is next on my list but it will have to wait because I brought a new ARB compressor yesterday.

Hi All
Ian - did you look into the Tyredog Sensors.
Repco have one on special this week - I am trying to research whether it would be suitable for the tyres on the Trooper - distance ?????

I got 2 of the Tyredog kits from Repco. I haven't fitted them yet so the range question is yet to be answered.

I've just spent all afternoon researching these tyre monitor thingys. Looks like I'll have to sell the house to afford the 8 tyre Tyredog unit.

Has anyone got any info about these AVE units? Here are a couple of links to 8 tyre units.

Thinking as I type I really need a 10 wheel monitor in case I need to fit a spare. Ideally a unit that has both internal and external sensors would preferable. Just carry a couple of spare cap sensors in the glove box.
